Janet Thompson2022-09-29My husband and I have been planning to establish a special needs trust for the past year and our experience with Family Law firms had been less than ideal. In two cases, we had to ask twice to meet with an attorney, and then were contacted by an assistant and reminded of the fee for the consultation which had to be paid before meeting with anyone. "bring your check book" one said. Really? We simply wanted to know an estimate for costs to set up a special needs trust so we could decide whether to go with an attorney or a managed fund from the ARC. But we had to pay for that information. It felt very transactional and impersonal. But then, a friend referred us to Paul Dean and he was exactly the type of professional we were looking for: genuine, knowledgeable, and empathetic. He met us personally with no mention of payment until after he had spent an hour educating us on trusts and offering unpressured advice. I had to mention payment at the end of the consultation and he waved his hand saying, I will add it to a proposal. No pressure, just an authentic desire to serve our family. A great dad, neighbor, and business professional! I have since recommended him multiple times to friends and colleagues. Before our then 18 year old son went off to college, we had him fill out both an Advanced Medical Directive and a Power of Attorney document. On September 10, 2021 he broke his leg and needed emergency surgery while playing a sport for school. It was very helpful to show the hospital our AMD since he is over 18, in order to be able to talk to the doctors and get information from hospital staff. If you are a parent of a college student, you will not regret having these two documents in your file. Thank you Paul Dean!
